This property, which was formerly in a more
or less isolated position, now lies in one of the most crowded parts of the town, and it has become most desirable that it should be developed for ordinary residential purposes. As part of the work of the mission has been taken over by the Church Missionary Society and part is for the time being in abeyance, I recommend that the Government should take over the land and buildings at a reasonable valuation, and that after reimbursing itself for the expenses which it has incurred it should divide the amount of the valuation between the Church Missionary Society and the London Mission in the proportion of two- thirds to one-third, on the condition that the money is appropriated to suitable mission work within the Colony.

I propose to call upon the Trustees of the enemy Missions to furnish a report as to the future manage- ment of the Missions' affairs, and when this is received I will address you further regarding a permanent scheme for carrying on the work.
I have the honour to be,
My Lord,
Your Lordship's most obedient,
humble servent,
B.E. Stutts
Governor,&c.
